CAS
Community service in BSL
CAS stands for Creativity, Action and Service. It is at the heart of the IB Diploma Programme. It involves students in a range of activities alongside their academic studies. CAS aims to challenge and extend the skills of each student. Creativity is covering the wide range of arts, hobbies and interests. In BSL students can learn an instrument, participate in art activities like design, painting, sculpturing, as well as knitting or pottery. They can also take courses at the local Art Centre in Batik or wood carving. Every year the school is producing a school play where CAS students are welcome to join.

Action includes all physical exertion helping to a healthy life style. BSL offers many after school clubs like Football, Basketball, Tennis, etc.

Service is an unpaid and voluntary exchange that has a learning benefit for the student. It can be social service for children in need or participating in environmental projects. In BSL we work with Orphanages, an AIDS clinic, a Home for abandoned Children (Terre des Hommes) and a Deaf School. Students are asked to work for and with their partners and should plan and do their activities independently.

BSL is supporting several humanitarian institutions in Togo. Our students in IB are doing the service component of their CAS programme in these centres. They play and teach the children in orphanages, a deaf school and a HIV centre. They also raise money to give some financial support for example by selling cake and drinks in school.
