  Community Service. Meeting the Challenge.

At International Weekend 757.275 CFA was raised for the Pouponniere Orphanage in Aneho. A group of students motivated from one of their ESL IGCSE lessons began writing letters after visiting the orphanage to assess the needs and were given a list of essential items. They wrote to many large companies in Lomé and also to parents, teachers and students.  As a result Asky Airline, donated a one year return ticket to any of their destinations. The raffling of this ticket generated a great deal of interest.

The students had many discussions and made many decisions as to how to use the money to fulfil the needs of the orphanage. They had fun buying the items too.

The orphanage was very grateful to receive not only what they had wanted but much more.

The students said,
‘We have learnt so much in a very short time.  We never knew how much we were capable of doing and the pleasure of giving’.

The students have pledged themselves to go on helping the orphanage and have many ideas for this year including raising money for vaccinations for the orphans. Investigations are ongoing as to how this can be done. If you can help, please contact the school.

These Year11 students now know what benefits community service can bring them, in increased confidence and heightened awareness and many, many, more skills. The sky is the limit!
