Gary McDonald
Head of PE and Activities Coordinator
My name is Gary McDonald and I joined BSL in August 2010 as the Head of Physical Education. |
Background I have been teaching and traveling around the world for the past 10 years. I have worked in Belgium, Uganda, USA, Brunei and China. In addition to those, I have traveled quite extensively in my holidays and seen many other fascinating places. I have worked in a Physical Education capacity in all of my posts, some as a teacher or coach and some in a leadership capacity.
Education My undergraduate studies were completed at the University of Dundee in Scotland gaining a Bachelor of Education degree. Following that I completed a Masters in Physical Education, Health and Recreation at Emporia State University and a Master of Education in Science Education (Sus. Science) at University of Southern Queensland, Australia. I am currently hoping to complete my doctorate in Environmental Systems at USQ.
Sports
My particular sporting strengths are Basketball, Swimming, Martial Arts (Karate/Kendo) and Athletics. I enjoy outdoor pursuits such as sailing, kayaking, hiking/mountaineering and camping. I am also a lifeguard and a lifeguard instructor through the American Red Cross and I teach lifeguarding classes and first aid classes to my students.
About me
I love my job. I really enjoy sport and being around people doing sport and recreation. I love the fact that I can combine my love of sport and the outdoors with my job. I look forward to getting to know the kids in BSL and hope that I am able to build a strong and interesting program for them so that they can get better at what they enjoy and also to try out some other things that they may have thought that they wouldn't enjoy. |
