Philosophy

We promote an interactive, holistic learning environment which stimulates and encourages inquiry, initiative, creativity and academic achievement. Emphasis is placed not only on exam success but also on providing students with the knowledge, skills and attitudes necessary to face the challenges of the future. We teach respect for the richness and diversity of individuals, cultures and spiritual beliefs. We build self-esteem and sustain self-discipline, and, above all, we cultivate and celebrate a passion for learning. Within a dynamic, multi-cultural environment, we acknowledge our responsibility to and involvement with the global community and through this approach we prepare our students for a successful future.
In order to achieve our vision, BSL has a number of basic understandings on which we base our educational and pastoral practice :
• The process of learning should be enjoyable, active and dynamic.
• We acknowledge that students come to us with a wide variety of learning styles, academic abilities, and linguistic and cultural experiences.
• We promote community service throughout the school.
• Problem solving, discovery, creativity and self-direction characterise our work at all levels.
• Success is recognised, valued and celebrated in a variety of ways at many different levels.
• Students learn both inside and outside the classroom, and our approach recognises this.
• Our students will be future leaders of the region. We explicitly work to ensure that our students develop the personal characteristics and understanding needed.
• There is a spirit of partnership involving the students, staff, and parents in which each individual feels welcomed and valued.
• BSL brings together children and adults of a wide variety of nationalities and cultures and celebrates this diversity.
