The Duke of Edinburgh's International Award is one of the world's leading youth development programmes, helping young people build confidence, resilience and life skills through real-world experiences.
At BSL, students challenge themselves beyond the classroom through volunteering, physical activities, skills development and adventurous journeys. Along the way, they develop qualities that universities, employers and communities value: leadership, perseverance, teamwork and initiative.
Every participant follows their own personalised journey, allowing them to explore their interests, pursue new goals and celebrate their achievements.

The Award Journey
Bronze Award: Typically beginning in Key Stage 4, students develop new skills, participate in physical activities, volunteer in their communities and complete an overnight adventurous journey in Togo.
Silver Award: Students build on their previous experiences through greater challenge, responsibility and independence and travel to a different part of Togo.
Gold Award: The highest level of the Award includes a residential project alongside the other sections, encouraging students to develop leadership and global citizenship. The participants identify the destination and plan the trip in its entirety with teacher support.

The BSL Experience
BSL students have completed adventurous journeys in the mountains and forests of Togo, Cameroon, and Ghana, developed service projects within local communities and demonstrated remarkable resilience, teamwork and leadership.
