Babou Ceesay

Babou Ceesay was at the British School of Lomé from 1993-98 where he finished his IB diploma. He studied Microbiology at Imperial College London and also worked as an internal auditor at an accounting firm, Deloitte. He later quit his job and decided to pursue his passion for acting, something he was involved in at BSL. He later trained at the Oxford School of Drama.

He got his first acting debut in a stage play The Overwhelming opposite Andrew Garfield and A Midsummer Night’s Dream. The first movie he acted in was Severance (2006). He caught his big break in the NBC TV drama series in A.D. The Bible Continues, playing the role of John, the “beloved” apostle. His most recent Hollywood outing was in the movie Best of Enemies alongside Taraji P. Henson. Some of the notable roles he played found him alongside acting luminaries Alan Rickman and Dame Helen Mirren in Eye in the Sky. He was also in Half of a Yellow Sun with Chiwetel Ejiofor.

He earned nominations in 2017 for best male performance in TV for the 12th Screen Nation Film and Television Awards and best actor for the 63rd British Academy Television Awards. He lives in London with his wife, journalist Anna Ceesay, and their two children.
